Continuum Engine FAQ
What is Continuum?
Continuum is a universe-scale game engine. You can edit the world at every scale, from a single voxel to a galaxy, and it is all one continuous world.
Is it a game or a game engine?
It's a game engine, and I'm building a shared world on it. It won't really be a game at first. The plan is for the first thing people do to be building, with richer game systems after that.
Can I play it?
Not yet. There is an early shared-world prototype on a hosted server, but nobody outside can join it. This is a soft launch now, and the actual release will be much later. The waitlist on the homepage is for development updates and future playtest invitations.
Is it multiplayer?
The goal is a shared world for people and agents. Today that is an early prototype that outside players can't join, so it isn't public multiplayer.
Is it voxel based?
Yes. The world is made of voxels, and you can edit it at every scale.
How big can a world be?
Universe scale, at 1:1. There is no render-distance limit, and storage grows linearly with the number of edits. "How big is a Continuum world?" on this blog has some real numbers.
Does it use AI?
Yes. Agents help build places in Continuum. The buildings around Shibuya in the demonstration were authored by agents, and they are labeled as agent-built. I also want agents to live in the world as inhabitants who talk to you, but that part isn't ready yet.
Who is making it?
Me, Don (Donald Della Pietra). I've been building it on my own.
Where can I follow it?
Continuum is continuumengine on YouTube, X, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky and Reddit. The links are at the bottom of this page.
