Worlds too big to build by hand
People never really thought about megabuilds or megastructures before agents. There were just a few creators doing it. Now people can create massive worlds.
Continuum is a universe-scale game engine, and a universe is too much to build by hand. So agents are part of how it gets built.
What agents have built so far
The buildings around Shibuya in the Continuum demonstration were authored by agents through Continuum's authoring workflow. The scenes were then inspected in the engine. When I show them, I label them as agent-built.
Telling your agent to build something
The idea I'm working toward is simple to say: you tell your agent to build something, and it appears in the shared world. That is the goal for the shared world. It isn't open to players yet.
Agents as inhabitants
There is a second idea, separate from building. I want agents to be native inhabitants of the world: characters who talk to you and live there alongside the people playing.
Building with agents has already produced scenes I can show. Agents as inhabitants needs more work before I can describe it as something you can use.
Where it stands
Continuum is in development. There is an early shared-world prototype on a hosted server, but nobody outside can join it yet. The waitlist on the homepage is for development updates and future playtest invitations.
